Reason for new dentures: The patient was wearing his first set of dentures, inserted directly after extractions of his remaining teeth. As to be expected several years following extractions, noticeable bone loss was evident. Because of this bone loss, both dentures were fitting poorly and the lower denture was causing pain.
Patient had: Complete upper and lower dentures with soft liner
Reason for new dentures: Patient was happy with the fit and aesthetics of the upper denture, but the lower denture was causing significant discomfort. Excessive wear on cusps of teeth was causing the lower denture to tip when functioning.
Age of old dentures: 1 year
After
Patient received: Complete upper and lower dentures, with Ivoclar SR Phonares II teeth and lingualized occlusion
Patient had: Complete upper denture and partial lower denture
Reason for new dentures: Patient had remaining lower teeth extracted, upper denture was worn and ill fitting, and aesthetics were not ideal due to wear and bone resorption
Age of old dentures: 10+ years old, not made as a set
Treatment notes: The lower denture will need a reline within a year, as bone loss and healing of extraction sites occurs, in order to keep tissues healthy and to ensure the patient will continue to function at a high level
Patient had: Complete upper denture, and complete lower denture with 2 lower implants using locator attachments
Reason for new dentures: Both dentures were ill fitting and stained, had required multiple relines/repairs, offered little retention for implants, patient was overclosed with a worn bite. Dentures were no longer appropriate.
Reason for new dentures: Patient’s teeth were migrating and causing dysfunction and aesthetic insecurities. Patient had remaining upper dentition extracted.
Reason for new dentures: Patient was aware that denture replacement is recommended at 5-7 years. While upper and lower dentures fit satisfactorily with minimal wear, dentures were no longer appropriate.
Age of old dentures: 5-7 years old
After
Patient received: Complete upper and lower dentures with Ivoclar SR Phonares II teeth. Old dentures were also relined, for use as a backup set.
Reason for new dentures: Denture was ill fitting, stained, and no longer appropriate as it had required multiple repairs and additions; it needed an additional repair for an anterior tooth
Patient had: Complete upper and lower dentures. Her lower denture had been constructed as an immediate denture and had never been relined.
Reason for new dentures: Bone loss had led to ill fit. Excessive tooth wear negatively affected the bite, degraded ability to break down food properly, and changed aesthetics.
Reason for new dentures: Both dentures were stained and ill fitting: tooth wear was so extreme it placed the patient in an incorrect, overclosed bite and jaw relationship. Dentures were no longer appropriate.
Patient had: Complete upper and lower dentures with aesthetic modification (diamond addition)
Reason for new dentures: Dentures were stained, causing discomfort from bone loss and ill fit, and no longer appropriate; patient was overclosed with a worn bite
Reason for new dentures: Denture was missing a tooth, had multiple fractures, was severely worn, and provided insufficient vertical. Patient wanted an aesthetic improvement.
